JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (Sept. 10, 2026) — The Washington County Board of County Commissioners will hold its Organizational Meeting Thursday, Sept. 10, at 6 p.m. in Courtroom 7 of the George P. Jaynes Justice Center, 108 W. Jackson Blvd. in Jonesborough.

The meeting marks the start of a new term for the county commission and will include the swearing-in of newly elected commissioners and the election of the commission’s leadership.

“This organizational meeting represents an important transition while reaffirming our commitment to serving the people of Washington County,” said Washington County Mayor Joe Grandy. “We welcome our new commissioners and look forward to working together as we address the opportunities and challenges that come with the continued growth of our county.”

Following public comment and any swearing-in ceremony, commissioners will elect a chairman, vice chairman and members of the Committee on Committees, which helps determine committee assignments for commission members.

“This meeting is an important part of the process because it establishes the leadership and committee structure that will help guide the commission’s work,” said Commission Chairman Greg Matherly. “We have a lot of important work ahead of us, and I’m confident this commission will continue to put the needs of Washington County citizens first.”

Members of the public attending the meeting will have an opportunity to address the commission during the public comment period. Each individual will be allotted three minutes.
