ABINGDON, Va. — Farris Funeral Service & Crematory will host the second installment of its 2018 Learning Series, “Have the Talk of a Lifetime,” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 26, at Forest Hills Chapel, located at 19415 Lee Highway in Abingdon, Virginia.
Have the Talk of a Lifetime is a community outreach program created by the Funeral and Memorial Information Council (FAMIC), a unique organization committed to enhancing the understanding and experience of the funeral service and memorialization, and to encouraging families to have conversations about life and what matters most.
Kim Farris-Luke, president and owner of Abingdon-based Farris Funeral Service & Crematory and FAMIC board member, will offer practical advice and information on how to ask questions and begin the conversation about pre-planning a funeral.
“Whether it’s sharing stories about a memorable piece of jewelry your grandmother always wears, looking through old photo albums or asking about their favorite color, it’s important to find time to sit down with your loved ones and talk about their fondest memories,” Farris-Luke says. “These conversations often provide important insights concerning the funeral arrangements they would like to have, and how they want to be remembered and honored after they have passed.
“Planning a funeral takes time and requires attention to detail,” Farris-Luke says. “We hope this event encourages families to spend more time together and start the pre-planning process early. Doing so means they don’t have to make such critical decisions as they are trying to navigate the grieving process after a loss.”
