JOHNSON CITY, Tenn., Oct. 29, 2024 — Mullican Flooring recently welcomed students from Hawkins County for a tour of the company’s Johnson City headquarters.
During the Oct. 21 visit, career and technical education (CTE) students from Volunteer High School were exposed to the world of manufacturing, particularly the technical processes and employment opportunities available in the hardwood flooring industry.
“Welcoming these classes to our facility is part of our commitment to encourage and educate local students about what it is like to work in manufacturing,” said Kyle Evans, vice president of manufacturing at Mullican. “The students were attentive and engaged during their visits, and we believe they left with a greater understanding of what career options are available to them.”
The tour began with a brief discussion about Mullican’s almost 40-year history and its operations across four locations — Johnson City; Norton, Virginia; Ronceverte, West Virginia; and Holland, New York — and continued with an explanation of Mullican’s manufacturing procedures before the students entered the production space for an up-close view of the company’s processes.
“We greatly appreciate Mullican arranging the tour for teacher Brandon Woods’ students,” said Brandon Williams, Ed.D., Career & Technical Education Supervisor for Hawkins County. “The students were impressed with the tour and the facility, and we are very thankful for industry partners that are as invested in CTE as Mullican Flooring is. You can’t underestimate how powerful an industry tour like that can be for our students. We look forward to sending additional groups to visit in the future.”
