Jack Garvey, former St. Louis prosecuting attorney, judge and alderman, named firm partner
NASHVILLE, Tenn.— Branstetter, Stranch & Jennings (BS&J), PLLC of Nashville, Tennessee, announces the opening of a satellite office in St. Louis, Missouri, and the addition of Judge (ret.) Jack Garvey as partner. The St. Louis office is located in the Peabody Plaza Building at 701 Market Street, Suite 1510.
Judge Garvey joined BS&J earlier this year. His 35-year career has included the private practice of law, along with serving as the prosecuting attorney for the City of St. Louis, as a member of the St. Louis Board of Aldermen, and on the city’s associate and circuit court benches. During his time on the bench, Judge Garvey presided over 200 jury trials, and served as the chief criminal judge, presiding juvenile court judge and assistant presiding judge, as well as the chief judge, of the 22nd Judicial Circuit mass tort docket. His primary areas of practice include mass torts, personal injury and mediation.
Judge Garvey is joined at the St. Louis office by his daughter, St. Louis native Colleen Garvey, who also joined BS&J earlier this year. Ms. Garvey previously worked at a top insurance defense firm in St. Louis, and brings a distinct perspective and desire to strongly advocate for those who have experienced injustice or harm. Her primary areas of practice include mass torts and personal injury, along with class action, complex and general civil litigation.
“Colleen and I are excited to join BS&J here in St. Louis,” Judge Garvey said. “The firm has a long record of success representing plaintiffs in a variety of class actions, mass tort proceedings and additional complex litigation across the nation, several of which have been litigated against some of the largest companies across the globe in the pursuit of justice for clients who have been harmed through the misconduct of these companies.
“In addition, as a father-and-daughter team, we’re pleased to be part of a family firm, where the managing partner is the grandson of the firm’s founder, whose father is a current partner of the firm, and whose mother is a former partner who now serves on the bench. We look forward to helping protect the rights of St. Louis-area citizens who have been wronged by third-party misconduct or carelessness.”
Judge Garvey obtained his B.A. in urban affairs in 1983 from St. Louis University and earned his J.D. in 1986 from Rutgers University School of Law. He is a former adjunct professor of law at Washington University School of Law and St. Louis University School of Law, and former president of the board of directors of the St. Louis Public Library. Ms. Garvey earned her J.D. in 2020 from Saint Louis University School of Law and graduated magna cum laude in 2016 from Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri, with a B.A. in psychology and English.
“We’re delighted to welcome Jack and Colleen to the BS&J family of attorneys,” said Gerard Stranch, managing partner of BS&J. “It is an honor and privilege for our firm to help bring justice to under-represented citizens of the St. Louis area, particularly with the experience and expertise that Jack has long provided throughout his esteemed career, and the talent and dedication that Colleen brings to our firm.”
