ABINGDON, Va. — Kim Farris-Luke, a fourth-generation funeral professional with 24 years of experience, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Selected Independent Funeral Homes.
Selected Independent Funeral Homes is a membership association which provides resources, solutions and ongoing support to independently owned funeral homes, and is the world’s largest and oldest association of its kind.
“I am honored to have my peers within the membership select me as a regional representative,” says Farris-Luke, president and owner of Abingdon, Virginia-based Farris Funeral Service & Crematory. “I have greatly benefited from the knowledge and experience of the many representatives who have served in this position before me. I hope to be able to serve others, particularly the next generation, in the same manner.”
Farris-Luke was formally inducted into her new role as the Group 3 representative during the association’s 98th annual meeting, held Sept. 14-17 at the Grand Floridian in Orlando, Florida. She will represent members from an eight-state area encompassing Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
Farris-Luke has served on numerous nonprofit boards and committees. She frequently speaks at seminars and teaches classes in the community focusing on bereavement support, advanced planning, “green” service and cremation options.
