NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The law firm of Branstetter, Stranch & Jennings, PLLC of Nashville (BS&J) announced today that member Ed Gleason, who was recently selected as general counsel for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, formally began his duties for the organization March 22, 2022.
Gleason comes from a family with an established history of working in the trades and is a lifelong labor attorney. His decades of experience include work in a wide range of labor law sectors, including the trucking, warehouse, parking, airline, railroad, and maritime industries. He has represented labor unions in federal trial and appellate courts, administrative agencies, arbitrations, and national, regional, and local collective bargaining.
“The Teamsters have a rich history of protecting workers and families and helping them receive the wages and benefits that are fairly theirs,” Gleason said. “As the son and grandson of tradesmen, I am honored to be selected for this role and to go to work on behalf of those who produce goods and services and keep them moving across this nation.”
Gleason previously served as a member of the legal department of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, representing the Carhaul and Airline Divisions, and was the general counsel for the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association. He was also an adjunct professor of labor law at the Georgetown University Law Center, and taught advanced labor law and practice and procedure before the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to J.D. and L.L.M. degree students.
Gleason joined BS&J in 2021 as the member in charge of the Washington, D.C., office, and will remain with the firm while serving as the Teamsters’ general counsel.
“Ed is a man of character and integrity who has spent his career fighting for the rights of workers both in America and internationally,” said Gerard Stranch, managing partner for BS&J. “Our firm has represented Teamsters since our founding, and we are proud and honored that Ed has been selected to serve in this way. We look forward to supporting him and the Union as they vigorously and proactively defend our nation’s workers.”
